Here are some very useful calculators that will allow you to easily determine the following:
- Shipment Density
- Dimensional weight – Domestic shipments
- Dimensional weight – International shipments
- Length Conversion
- Weight Conversion
- Cubic Meter
Density Calculator
A shipment’s density is one of the factors that determine the freight rate. Shippers need to know how to calculate a shipment’s density so they can properly describe and classify their goods on the bill of lading. The total weight of the shipment is divided by the total cubic feet to determine the density.
Measure the dimensions of the shipment in inches. Measure to the farthest points, including skids or other packaging.
On shipments with multiple pieces, repeat these measurements for each piece.

Dimensional Weight
This method is used mainly with airfreight carriers and a few domestic carriers that do not adhere to the NMFC and class applications that common LTL carriers utilize. When utilizing this type of carrier, a shipment will be charged a rate that is based on the actual weight or the dimensional weight, whichever is greater.
